MARUTI SUZUKI SX4 S- CROSS
ead our Maruti Suzuki S-Cross India first drive here
After the Kizashi and Vitara, Maruti Suzuki now has a new launch for the IndianMARKET and it is called as S-Cross. In the UK market it is called as SX4 S-cross but in India it will be called as S-Cross. The S-Cross is a crossover which will compete with other SUVs like the Renault Duster, Nissan Terrano plus the upcoming Hyundai ix25 SUV. It will be the most expensive Maruti on sale and will be its premium SUV offering. To be launched soon within a few months time here is our first review.
Looks
The S-Cross has a length of 4300 mm, width of 1765mm and ground clearance of 170mm. These are healthy numbers and in the flesh the S-Cross does have presence with its pure crossover styling. It does not look like a pukka SUV especially the rear and side view but the interesting design details especially at the front gives it a nice clean crossover design. Inclusion of LED DRLs, big 17 inch wheels (India-spec will have 16 inch wheels), black skid plates and wheel-arch extensions lends it some presence. Build quality is also the best we have seen from Maruti Suzuki.
Interior
The interior is typically Suzuki with its conservative design but with well laid-out, easy to use controls with a please all cabin look. The India spec version will come with lighter colours in the cabin but black gives it a sporty look. There are also silver touches which liven up the cabin a bit. The 2,600mm wheelbase means that there is plenty of room and the second row seats have good space plus are comfy which means along with the Ciaz this is the best Maruti Suzuki to be chauffeured in. The 430 litres luggage capacity is also decent.
When it comes to features we do not know what will make it to the India spec car but Maruti will surely give the S-Cross a generous amount of features. We can expect features like sunroof, rear ac vents, steering controls, Bluetooth, dual-zone auto aircon, push button start, parking sensors etc.
S-Cross Engines, expect price and launch
The S-Cross worldwide is equipped with a 4 wheel drive with all grip technology which comes with four different driving modes depending on different usage but it will not be in the India spec version as due to factors like cost and lack of demand. It also gets 5-star Euro NCAP safety rating. In terms of engines it will be having a 1.6 diesel with 118 bhp and 320Nm of torque which sound like good numbers and will give it an advantage over rivals. We expect it to come with a 6-speed manual. Worldwide the S-Cross or SX4 S-Cross also comes with a 1.6 petrol along with a CVT option.
We expect only the diesel to come though and the engine has similar character with the 1.3 diesel that we all know very well. Price is something that we will know with its launch but we can expect Maruti to shock us with an aggressive price-tag giving its rivals nightmares. Overall the S-Cross from Maruti Suzuki seems promising and like the Ciaz we can expect another big success here
